      EVENT DETAILS
Science Cafe at Tucson Botanical Gardens – 'Effects of Drought on Tropical Rainforests'

Presenter: Laura Meredith, Assistant Professor, University of Arizona School of Natural Resources and the Environment; Director, Biosphere 2's Tropical Rainforest

About the talk: The Biosphere 2 Tropical Rainforest provides a unique opportunity to holistically evaluate how these vital ecosystems respond to environmental change. This fall, an international team of scientists will come together and conduct a controlled drought experiment. We will evaluate the impacts of environmental stress on the carbon and water cycle. Specifically, the team will study the biological coping mechanisms of plants and microbes under drought conditions. In this talk, learn of initial results from this exciting research campaign. Discover how biodiversity and environmental impacts may shift with dryer tropical rainforests.

About Science Cafes: Science Cafes, presented by the University of Arizona College of Science, bring the community together with University of Arizona scientists and graduate students in a casual setting. You'll learn about the latest research being conducted, get to know the faces behind the science, and have opportunities to ask questions and deepen your understanding. We have five separate cafe series at five different locations around Tucson, each with their own themes for fascinating science discussions.Audience:
