The Rialto Theatre schedule features Tucson's best in the performing arts. Located across the street from the famed Hotel Congress, the history of the Rialto Theatre dates back to the early 1910s. Although the venue was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, don't let old age fool you: the Rialto Theatre features a cutting edge sound and tech system and a constantly busy schedule. The Rialto Theatre was conceived in the 1910s and opened its doors in 1920. It was one of Tucson's original movie houses, presenting silent films and vaudeville shows to the newly burgeoning city. After closing in 1984, the venue was purchased by the city. The Rialto Theatre was returned to its former glory and reopened in 2004. It is run by the non-profit, Rialto Theatre Foundation, and serves as the flagship Rio Nuevo reconstruction project.
